Chiemi Nobata

is a contemporary Japanese artist who is living and working in Switzerland since 2025.
She creates abstract paintings using traditional Japanese materials such as Sumi ink and Washi paper. Her practice is driven by a deep curiosity about art materials and their potential for transformation. Working without preliminary sketches, she allows the materials to interact freely, resulting in organic and unpredictable forms. Her process explores themes of transformation and impermanence, focusing on the quiet presence and resonance of materials. She seeks to visualise philosophical ideas, states of thought and emotion that have no physical form, and abstract concepts through the medium of abstract painting, inviting viewers to experience new perceptions and moments of introspection. She has exhibited in Japan, South Korea and Europe, was a finalist for the YICCA Prize in Venice in 2023 and 「Inner Thoughts」is in the permanent collection of the Museo d’Arte di Chianciano Terme. 野畑 千絵美、神奈川県生まれ、スイス在住の画家。 墨や和紙といった日本の伝統的な素材を用い、抽象絵画を制作している。明確な構想を持たず即興的に描き始めることで、素材そのものが持つ潜在的な可能性を引き出し、画面に現れる偶然的な表情から着想を得ながら作品を形にしていく。 哲学的な思想や、物理的には存在しない人の思考・心情の状態、物事の概念を、抽象絵画という媒体を通して可視化し、鑑賞者に新たな知覚や内省の機会を促すことを試みている。 これまでに日本、韓国、ヨーロッパで作品を発表。2023年にはヴェネツィアで開催されたYICCA Prizeのファイナリストに選出され、作品「心奥」はキアンチャーノ・テルメ現代美術館の永久収蔵作品となっている。 "Sometimes I feel that we are living in an artificial world,

is a handcrafted shop run by Chiemi Nobata, founded in 2025.
Each piece is created from her original drawings using Sumi ink on Washi paper. Through four years of experimentation, she developed a unique plastic surface treatment for delicate Washi paper. This process makes the Washi paper water-repellent, solid, and transparent, while retaining a subtly rough texture that preserves the tactile quality of the original material. Products are wallet, pouch, bookmark, and so on. atelier noba（アトリエ ノバ）は、2025年に野畑 千絵美により設立されました。 和紙に墨を用いデザインを一点一点描き、プラスティック加工を施した後、財布やポーチ、栞などに加工しています。プラスティック加工は4年の試行錯誤により見つけた独自の技法となっており、加工後の和紙は撥水性・強度・透明性を備えつつ、素材本来のわずかにざらついた質感を保っています。 |
